For the launch of Insta360’s X5, we created a GTA-inspired film in Miami built entirely from footage captured on the camera itself. The piece combined cinematic action, stylized VFX, and advanced spatial workflows to show what can happen when 360 capture is used as more than just a format.
A key part of the innovation was equirectangular 3D tracking, a technique still rarely used at a high level in commercial work. Combined with 360-filmed Gaussian splats and VFX, it allowed us to treat the footage as spatial data, not just imagery. That gave us greater freedom in post, from tracking and reconstruction to rig removal, reframing, and effects integration.
The film featured mounts including helicopter rigs, 3 meter pole, and various other methods to capture dynamic stunt-driven shots across Miami. Every major moment was designed around the camera’s unique ability to capture full-environment information while staying compact enough for ambitious setups.
The result was a launch film that felt technical, cinematic, and distinctly forward-looking, built not just to showcase the X5, but to push the creative potential of the medium itself.
